“Aziraphale, we are in DANGER.”

My god you’re pretty.

“DANGER ZONE. HERE.”

Look at your pretty yellow eyes.

“There are demons outside our bookshop.”

Oh my god he said our.

“Are you listening to me?”

I adore you.

“AZIRAPHALE.”

Let’s dance first.

“WE ARE GOING TO DIE.”

Did he change his shirt for the event? Goodness. He is the handsomest angel and demon and human being I’ve ever seen.

Help the evil scientist who strapped me to the dissection table is definitely fruity and frustratingly attractive

i never fucked wayne i never fucked drake is such a relatable line. i’ve never fucked wayne or drake either. it really chimes with my own life experiences.

People hold Mitt Romney in a high regard he doesn’t deserve, and a lot of the “tell-all” memoirs/biographies of politicians that come out are a waste of time, but that excerpt from the new Romney biography going around really grabbed my attention. There’s a lot of interesting things going on in there, not the least of which is that Romney has now become personally obsessed with the potential downfall of US civilization at the hands of the political party he’s spent his entire life supporting

Very easy to mock someone for only realizing this recently, but for a guy like Romney I really do believe that the full scale of this fact has hit him only in the last few years

the key dynamic of the republicans party is that the people who made it into a fascist party are completely ignorant that they did it, did not intend to do it, and lack the basic political knowledge they’d need to know how it happened. they made a fascist shaped hole in their supporter’s hearts and were shocked when somebody filled it.

the establishment GOP of Romney’s era were not, typically, fascists. they were and are, typically, unbelievably rich men for whom ideology does not really exist. they believed that the way the world works is that the peasantry are largely stupid, insane racists, and their job was to appeal to those people in sufficient quantities to get the power needed to cut their own taxes. these are people who campaigned on banning abortion, who would write bills about it, but who never really intended to ban it because it made such good campaign material

(the establishment national democrats work the same way but from the opposite direction; they campaigned on abortion protection, but never actually passed any laws about because it’s too good a campaign vehicle to pass up. the supreme court striking down roe v wade was a huge boon to them, mobilizing voters and donors. why would they want it to stop?)

these men believe in the hegemonic hierarchy, yes, but with no urgency. they are conservatives; they think all the same things that fascists do, but with no structural worldview emerging from it that gives them a goal beyond getting theirs. the world is already the way they want it.

what has happened to them since 2008 has come out of left field for these people, because they do not understand that politics exist as anything other than rich men agreeing how to divide the pie up. they don’t understand their decades of dogwhistles were taken as promises by the fascist movement they increasingly normalized. they do not understand why the new members of their party in congress are genuine believers instead of people knowingly just making mouth noises like they were. they do not understand the worsening material conditions mean that their reactionary base are desperate for ‘results’ and no longer content with dogwhistles

these new people are fascists. they believe all the things conservatives do, but they have a story about the word, a stolen and twisted historical materialism, which give them a mission. their view of the hierarchy is not simply The Way Things Are, No Point In Fighting It, but rather The Way Things Must Be. the fragile material conditions of late capitalism have made the petite bourgeoisie terrified for their position, and they are desperate to have it enforced because they see the red banners on the horizon

mitt romney is a man who has always been so rich that ideology have never existed to him. he never needed a story about the world that justified his wealth because it was never at risk. everyone in his position is having to think, for the first time ever, “how did we get here?”, and is having to confront reality. this is novel and terrifying to them.

one of the interesting things that happen is that when fascism arises, you do in fact discover there are a tiny number of conservatives who really do have the principles they claim they do. there are always one or two of them who see what is happening and quit in disgust. never many, most are content to continue to support the hierarchy and it’s fascist enforcers, but there are sometimes one or two

it’ll be interesting, in a morbid way, to find out which ones
